Zombie March 2012 Part 1

Alrighty there is about a month (give or take) left till Bostons 2012 Zombie march (wooo)

and this entry is part one of maybe 3-4 that'll be showing steps I go through to make my outfit FOR zombie march.

No real NAME for it yet other then "Red Hooded Zombie Hunter Assassin" or Red Zombie Assassin lol

annyhoo- yeah I plan to be uploading the pictures showing of my outfit/props as they go along. Seeing as I right now only have the vest (hoodless) one nerf gun and such, I shall use THIS entry to explain what I'll be doing and such.

Part 1- the Nerf Supplies

Every Zombie Hunter Needs weapons.

I am a swordsman normally in life. ok always. So I am gonna be acquiring a Nerf N Force sword (for my Zombie head chopping) to accompany my nerf gun armory. (Recon and Deploy CS-6 and two Nite Finder single Shot pistols)

After getting the said things above- I shall be disassembling the guns and spray painting them to make them look less...Yellow and orange. Maybe a Black and Silver or something. But point is- I'm gonna have smexy nerf guns...not yellow ones XP
This process shouldn't take me long- maybe a week at most (gonna take my time with these to ensure they look GOOD)

Part 2- the threads

Every Zombie hunter- needs to look gorgeous

As I said- every zombie hunter has to look good. So I shall be wearing a tank top, my vest (which hopefully will be hooded) my black jeans and sporting a backpack. Possibly.

Anyway about my outfit- I'll be adding the above said RED HOOD to the vest giving me an Assassins Creed style hood allowing me to avoid sun to the face (bad) and also giving me a sexy allure of mystery :3 (no not really I just like hoods that make me look spooky). ALSO I shall be finding a way to make a scabbard for the N force sword (so it can be on my back at all times) ALSO maybe try making some SORT of thing for my Deploy CS-6 so I am not like custer fucked with guns lol

Also I was considering (pending prices) getting a thing of tennis balls, removing the felt (burning it off) and making "ball grenades" to strap to something and wear as a "explosive contingency idea" lol

Part 3- the month prior= work

I am  gonna be spending as much time as possible making the sheath for the sword, the hood for my vest, painting everything and hopefully fine tuning anything before the actual day. (Back yard to test how good everything fits and such so I dont break things in my room.) DOUBT there will be a "finished product" photo till Zombie March. Then I'll just upload all the photos of me I find :D

SO with all that said here is my "To Do List."

1- Acquire Recon CS-6 Nerf Gun- Complete
2- Acquire Deploy CS-6 Nerf Gun- In Progress
3- Acquire two Nite Finder Nerf Guns- In Progress
4- Acquire Red Fabric to Make Hood-In Progress
5- Acquire N Force Short Sword- In Progress
6- Acquire Spray Paint to paint above nerf guns- In Progress
7- Paint said guns - Unstarted
8- create sheath for sword on back. - Planning
9- Clean/Shine Boots weekend of - Will Get to
10- Last Minute checks between May 9th-May 18th- ???
11- Zombie March - O.O ^.^

This sums up my basic outline of the project and next Monday hopefully I'll start the process of getting things done. (Acquiring paint and materials for other stuff)

Please if you guys have any suggestions for paint scheme of the nerf guns please comment and let me know- I am unsure yet but will probably make up my mind between now and then. And if you want, go to my deviant art page (link on top of the blog page) and follow the progress I make as I make it if I don't upload photos here.

Random thought of the day

The idea of suicide is generalized as so depressed you must take ones life to escape it all.

What if you aren't depressed when you die. You just are content with what you've accomplished. Lived a full life and want to die with a "perfect" record (to use the sports analogy) is it so hard to conceive the notion of a happy suicide?

I am pondering this notion quite intently lol   <- my current facebook  status
    •

      Commenter

Its not impossible but very unlikely
86 % of suicides happen when you are depressed and can't take it. The rest fall under.. Mentally Unstable and Mentally Challenged people. The estimate of a happy suicide is possible but very unlikely. Normally when your happy and or content the feeling of suicide wouldn't enter mind because life hasn't gotten bad enough for the person to feel the need to die. As far as the perfect record people, I figure they wouldn't have a happy suicide but kill themselfs after seeing how far they could go before blemishing their record, when the record is marked I'm sure a depressing state would set in weather it be failure, disapointment, anger, whatever the cause of depression I'm sure a person who is concerned with record would be depressed before suicide.
This has been advice from TheBoomBoxGuy (High)
Saving the world one status at a time!
      Myself

xD That is a valid logical arguemnt and I agree to it but I was looking more along the lines of say a hunter. Travels the world has hunted every prize/challenge there was in his life span and is not yet "old age" there for he has lived an enriching life (travel, sights, events, etc) he has accomplished every goal he set for himself (hunting all the game he was able to hunt (legal and possibly illegal) maybe has loved and lost etc etc etc. Could it be possible he is content in his accomplishments that it is like a book that you must just end it before you ruin what good story you've left to the world. and If so- why does it have to be lumped under instability/depression/etc why can't it be what it was "the ending that is neither happy, nor sad. Just an end."

    •  Commenter
Well the reason for it being depression or mentally unstable would be mostly because the % of the deceased have been researched, or prior notice from a family member or friend that the person hit a rough patch and couldn't handle it. Or they were on/off their meds in which leading to such a decision. So with that being said its a bigger majority of sad and or depressed people or feelings that occur towards suicide. And as for the "hunter" I'd figure it to be "I can die happy" meaning the person who has accomplished their goals would fear death less instead of "I want to die because I did all I want to do". Normally upon completion of most desired goals the person would slip into a state of bordem and or confusion which might sooner lead to depression. All I'm saying is 9 out of 10 depression is almost always a deciding factor in most suicides

    •
       Myself

I do agree with that. I guess over all the NOTION of a non 'depressed" suicide caused me to be like "...wow we really do stimatize polar views on everything even in the idea of death as a people"

kinda unsettling to realize that even DEATH is extrmeley polarized as goods and bads instead of in the eye of the beholder I guess.

AGAIN- thank you Boom Box Guy- I quite enjoyed this conversation :D it was actually more engaging a result then I expected to get with the facebook company I keep. ^.^

Well death is just one of those subjects like meaning of life, afterlife, religion, conspiracy, etc they normally strike an interesting conversation with people depending on who is paying attention and has a shred of common sense.
Just felt like I was high enough to give my input on the topic lol

    • Myself
    • And great input it was indeed. I must learn your "schedule" to arrange more great conversations to inspire knowledge in my friends and possibly your own. Shall be our gift to the world :D

Now this is a conversation I just had. I quite throughly enjoyed it. Luckily I wasn't in a mood where this answer would bother me. The input of someone else made me realize I wasn't the only one contemplating the idea of death being more then just a "black" in the black v white of life v death :D

Remember guys- follow me on here and leave comments so I can respond to them or just get a conversation going about the topic you comment on.
Follow on Twitter so you can leave me twitter comments for rants/conversations to do.

Also remember today was Earth Day...apparently that still means something to some people. Not me though. Today it was a fun hang out day with friends.

Stop (trying to Stop) Bullying

I am not "Pro Bully" I am pro common sense.

Today's entry might piss a lot off so if you are sensitive to 'possibly offensive material' PLEASE skip this entry.

1st-  bullying does not lead to suicide. Yes bullying cause depression, self esteem issues, etc.

2nd- Bullying happens...in ALL parts of life. High school, elementary/grammar school, the work force, the bedroom (ladies calling a guys dick not big enough is bullying...dicks have feelings too...oh so do their penises I guess >.>)

                  any way yes

3rd- you know that bully you stigmatize because he is a bully, THAT IS BULLYING.

Bullying- Verb- Use of superior strength or influence to intimidate (someone), typically to force him or her to do what one wants.
Sound familiar? Yeah that punk who calls you a slut because you didn't blow him at the football game. He is a bully.
Wanna know what also is bullying?

"You, stop picking on little timmy, his speech impediment isn't something to make fun of him for. Either you stop or shit will happen to you."

You call it "discipline" I call that bullying or ABUSE of power. wait...those are the SAME THING (who knew!?)

I was bullied in high school. I'm still bullied (by high schoolers while I am 'college aged'. So I want to point out- bullying is part of life, it builds character, teaches one to learn to handle stress. Deal with adversity and over all just handle LIFE...because life sucks. It isn't flowers, candy necklaces and ponies. (those things are fucking expensive.)

I find these are "common reasons to be bullied"

Someone's appearance (e.g. hair colour or style, height)
Someone's race
Someone's religion
Someone's nationality
Someone's sexual orientation
Someone being jealous

Notice all of these reasons...they are based primarily on negative emotions from the bully. MEANING the bully is just as 'depressed' as the target bullied. The only thing "keeping him from walking up the street with a blade" is that his outlet is pissing off the world with his negativity. I.E- bullying the shit out of little timmy.

NOW let's take a GOOD example.

Johnny is walking through the school and sees little Timmy, now little Timmy is in the musical and that means he is "gay" Johnny calls Timmy a fag. Now Timmy loves tits. BIG TITS and the women attached to those tits, meaning he joined the musical to get laid. (Good boy Timmy, knowing what it takes to get access to those bra straps Uncle Sam is Proudofya!) Now Johnny gets a few girls here and there because he is the BAD GUY but Timmy...well Timmy's the man whore of the school musical., all those girls Johnny got are Timmy's sloppy seconds.

Timmy doesn't care if he is called fag by Johnny because he knows he isn't a fag. He holds his head up proud. Johnny however calls Timmy a fag because he is JEALOUS of the fact that Timmy has talent, women, able to have fun doing something, and isn't afraid of doing what he wants. All things relating to IMPOTENCE. (Not sexually- mentally here) he is impotent mentally in the sense where HE CAN'T do what he wants, fearing his 'image' will be ruined so he picks on people who CAN do anything they want because they want to.

Johnny gets more and more MAD at Timmy for not caring about the bullying but when they are seniors and about to graduate, Timmy goes to Johnny and they talk. At first Johnny is insecure, scared and thinks he might be gay anyway. Asking Timmy for advice he forgives Johnny understanding the stigma of being the bully and accepts him for who he is, allowing Johnny to be himself finally in turn NO MORE BULLY.

Now don't give me the "well thats one case! it doesn't always happen that way!" Because honestly- I don't care. My point is this= the reason many kids commit suicide of being bullied- is that they allow the words (that is the BIG part there, most of them are just words) to affect them. Yeah there are physical bullies- to deal with those you learn to fight back. Simple as that.

Now for the "cyber bullies"- my solution- don't feed the god damn trolls.
IF someone has nothing better to do then pick on you via the internet, guess what? Block them. Ignore them. Call the FBI and rat them out. Do anything to STOP it. Don't bottle it, and cry in bed reading the taunting remarks. Go to your mom and dad and show them the offenses and say "I want to take them down, call the FBI!" It'll work. Nothing says "stop bullying" like two suits coming to your house and locking you up for calling Suzy a whore on facebook. :D

Any way that is my rant.

My opinion on bullying is this- don't try stopping it, just deal with it the old fashion way= fight back/ignore it.

Plain and simple.

Alright guys follow on twitter and here, leave your comments below and questions about things for me to rant about. I probably left this unfinished in a sense because I was getting more and more side tracked while writing because I was actually bothered by this topic.

Welcome to the world

What Is An Independent Author?

Independent authors ('indies) are often referred to as self-publishing writers, though nobody who produces a good book works alone. You are an independent author if you have taken charge of the publication (in ebook or pbook format), the distribution (how your reader gets hold of your book) and the promotion (letting readers know it exists and why they'd like to buy it) of one or more of your books.
Independent authors own our own ISBNs and licence our own rights -- but that doesn't mean we do everything ourselves.  Indies hire designers and editors and sometimes (see below) make partnerships with trade publishers, rights agents, distributors -- anyone who can help us reach our readers.
Independent authorship is, more than anything else, an attitude of mind. It is the most creative choice a writer can make, and very empowering, but it requires a variety of skills. It is best suited to writers of an entrepreneurial bent.

-Passage from http://allianceindependentauthors.org/faq.html

Indie Authors are still a new breed to the world. Many people assume if you are one- you must not have been good enough to be published normally. But contrary to that thought- it's not always the case. Sometimes, it is the MOST empowering thing an author can do.

Here are 16 facts about Indie Authors you MIGHT have not  known about.

16- Indie Authors are not rich.
Ok maybe a few will/might get into the black. But MOST indie authors are aware that their book will cost them more then it will make them financially. However knowing this is the case- they still push on to do it independently. It's a choice of character not a choice of easier/harder/etc.

15- Indie Authors are renegades,  rebels, and a force to be reckoned with-
These people are the ones who saw the big name publishers, saw the possibility of choosing them to help publish their books but said "No." They made their own path. They walk with the indie musicians, filmmakers, artist on the rough road that is indie. They know that it might have been easier and possibly safer to do it the "normal" way. But they wanted their way to the the way they chose. Not some other way.

14- They rarely are ever Alone
Their name is on the book. Their creativity created the story. But their friends and family helped make that book go from the notebook, napkin, laptop, etc to your hand. They helped pay the publisher, helped edit the manuscript, helped make the cover image, helped by telling a friend of a friend's cousin about the book who bought a bunch of copies to give out at a school event or whatever. An Indie Author is only as strong as those he has offering help. Hopefully it's more then he has to ask for.

13- The indie author is the author you’ll be hearing about soon
Do you remember what is was like before Harry Potter? How about before Hunger Games or Twilight? Do you remember a time before those books were NOT around? How about a time where their authors were not known to the world. Or even their own town. They are rising stars and all they can do is get higher and higher in recognition. If you know an independent author don't write them off- keep them in your eye sight- they might do GREAT things.

12- The indie author is inspired to be a writer, not a marketer.
Writing takes talent. Marketing takes skill. Indie Authors usually don't have both. The ones that do had to develop one or both over time. If you know an indie author/artist that is trying to market themselves always offer to lend a hand- they'd do the same for you if they could. Besides- sometimes they could just use criticism/advice to market better and they'll be JUST fine.

11- Indie Authors are Proficient and Good Adapters
The indie author sometimes has to be technologically proficient. Artistically (drawing covers or concept art) or even data management proficient. Instead of paying someone to run a page, do the art work for them, manage payments, etc. They learn it all for themselves. Not by choice sometimes. Yes other times it's because they WISH to be in control of everything. Other times- it is because no other option is available. That time spent learning everything in the business causes stress. But after the stress they still find time to write that book you love reading.

10- They are following Tradition
Remember when telling stories by the fire WAS story telling. Before written words allowed story tellers to mass produce a story for millions not tens/hundreds at a time? Yeah Independent Authors remember this and remember that the spirit of storytelling is an age old tradition that will always have age old rituals that just sometimes can't be broken by the 'new ways.' Even if the new way is cheaper/easier on them.

9- They Read A LOT
Indie Authors most of the time- didn't take creative writing classes or more then high school classes in literature. That being said they will read more then the average author to learn new styles, understand new methods, terms, increase their vocabulary or even learn new ways of creating a scene, plot development or just character creation. Oh yeah plus they just love reading. Reading IS fun ^.^

8- They don't get a leg up
Ever see an indie author's book on the shelves of Barnes and Noble? How about your local Library? You haven't?! Oh...wait I forgot- that's because to be publicly marketed LIKE THAT you need money. Barnes and Noble, Boarders, Libraries, etc- they only have books that have publishers who put money into having the book on the shelf. (Kinda reminds me of congress...things are bought and paid for by the big guy pushing the little guy to the corner) The indie author is usually found selling his book on Amazon, his own personal site or from his house. This venue is changing daily though because more and more- indie authors are being realized/found/recognized.

7- Their Stories- are part of them
This one is touchy I bet. I am not claiming that non indie authors don't put more then indie authors do into their stories. What I am claiming is that indie authors put a LOT on the line just to finish the story under the constraints of everyday life. How much do you think the sink into the stories development? Betcha an indie author TALKS to his manuscript asking it to help him out. What to do next, where he should go with a chapter? These are his dreams, his ideas, his life in physical form. He is taking them and putting them in the public eye where they can be ridiculed, disliked, hated, or worse- ignored. They have to have SOME form of ego.

6- They are everywhere
That guy bagging your food? He is writing a graphic novel about a nightmare he once had. Oh that secretary from work who hasn't been promoted in years? She is still working on that romance novel since high school and that book is keeping her from climbing the corporate ladder because between work, life and the book she has no desire to excel beyond he basic job's requirements. Writers blend in before they get published. Why- because they are afraid of claiming their writer persona. Claiming that they are Indie Authors leads to stigma or even worse- expectations of results of said book before it's even done leading to stress.

5- Sometimes- they are really insecure
This is like everyone else that 'is famous'. You think oh- they are successful writer- they must be confident, awesome and cool. Sometimes they aren't. Some of them are actually the opposite and anti social people who just wanna be left alone to write and publish, never interact with people but are forced to. The stereotype of writers being like Stephen King or J.K Rowling is horrible because they are just that- stereotypes. Get to know the person. Not the writer sometimes (a lot) they are different people.

4- They are Always working
I don't mean this like I have stated above. I mean it in the sense- hey look I am staring into space and not doing anything. Wrong I am staring out into space yes, but spacing because I am thinking how to write a chapter. How to develop a character, reasons behind why that character must die in the end of the book. A LOT of writers lose sleep over an idea that just doesn't go away. Burning candles at all ends is a routine familiar to most indie authors.

3- indie authors are not  franchise figureheads leading a creative staff
Star Wars creator George Lucas- wrote star wars first. it flopped as a book. But the movies- AMAZING because he had a staff helping with the creative portion of the movies. Indie authors- they are just one guy on his computer writing away from clocking out of work till 3 am when he starts seeing words become a foreign language or his wife tells him to come to bed before he passes out at the desk. They create ideas organically and hand shape it from a simple idea to a full length story. Their stories- are their children.

2- Indie Authors- are defenders of Independence and Keepers of Faith
Here are people who live in a world where they know they are destined to create something in a form that most people would prefer was a different medium. They are people aware they might have an amazing story in their hands but without the right marketing will never see the hands of the world. These are the groups of people who place all their faith, hope, dreams and ideas in the hands of chance, fate, and sometimes luck. Sometimes this will pay off..Other times it leads to broken dreams.

1- Indie Authors- just are that.
No one can say you are/aren't indie author. It is a mind set/ life stlye. It is the first and last choice an author makes before sitting down to write and after sending the manuscript to a printer to pick a publisher. Being independent is accepting the responsibility of the title, and the consequences of the actions. Yet does it proudly and would do it again time and time again without fail. No regrets.

alright guys that was tonights entry- sorry bout the lateness. been busy doing stuff
follow on twitter and here to leave comments and questions
expect more entries/rants/lists in the future and please remember to help out your indie author/indie artist/musican/film maker/closet case/etc

NEXT in movie world- Titantic's 3-D version blurs Rose's tits so you can't reach them and touch...IN CHINA...

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the same scenes where Rose poses nude for Jack to draw her were censored in China during Titanic’s debut release in 1998. However, a number of viewers still managed to watch the original version on pirated copies, with nude scenes immediately becoming the talk of the town.
The opening night of Titanic 3D, played on 2,500 screens across the country, reportedly fetched $11 million for 20th Century Fox. But many moviegoers felt deceived for the second time as soon as they realized they were offered a censored version.

The Biggest Question I've heard/get asked

A question I've heard and have been asked often has to be talked about-

"If you have written a book or are writing a bunch why are you not getting money from them/why are you paying to publish them?"

One thing I can not explain in enough detail apparently (granted to those who genuenly don't know)

The costs associated with turning a completed first-draft manuscript into a hard-copy novel can easily run into the thousands of dollars, and once the book is a reality, it then needs to be marketed.

SO FAR my exposure is this...and word of mouth.

SO to those of you wondering why it takes so long or why I ask a lot of people sometimes (either for art or just opinions it is because I actually am trying to avoid going further and further into the red.

YES- having an income would help and so would a bunch of other things but as people know with the economy sucking in many aspects, even WITH an income bankrolling an independent published/marketed book= will be hard.

One thing I'll apologize ALWAYS and forever for is spamming it. I don't do it for ego. I do it because I try to build up a fan base. One that I hope can encourage the book series to grow. (Planning on having the second one go on kickstarter to help with the cost when the time comes.)

But yeah...I know people think writers = J.K Rowling, King, etc. Rich people doing nothing but writing books.

Those are some...more like FEW

and it sucks but maybe I'll be there one day but TILL then...gotta hope you guys- THE PEOPLE I WRITE FOR (sometimes) lol help out in everyway you can.

That is on the cover on my books website and my girlfriend did it for me. I owe her for helping me.

The main character (an original concept art done by Brett Hughey (A.k.A- The Number XII) one of my friends.)

I'll never admit it out loud to him unless he is not paying attention but I can't ever thank him enough for the amount of art he has done/will do in the past or the possible future.

SO YEAH....I guess this is just me answering a question PLUS showing off stuff for the book.

...SUPPORT independent authors :D
and me if you wish go to the books like page and check it out you might find that the book look interesting. Or something.

REMEMBER- follow on twitter, here and all my other places ^.^

(Un)Lucky One(s)

The Lucky One-

A Marine travels to North Carolina after serving three tours in Iraq and searches for the unknown woman he believes was his good luck charm during the war.

Soooo you're saying Zac Effron is carrying around a picture of some chick...survives the war...and looks for her...then falls in love with her and she is ok with this....

I know - better love story then twilight but...really?! Isn't this the most horrifying theory to teach the generation that is just getting to the end of the twilight crap!?

yes girls you need to know that sparkling abusive 100 year old boyfriends is GREAT especially if they carried a picture of you around during war over seas for 3 tours and now wants you....and you don't know...and aren't curious how he got your picture...

no wonder the world Hates America.

Kickstart

Today is kinda a "supportive" entry today.

As some of you readers are aware- there is a site called Kickstarter. It is a place for independent people to go and post their projects in hope of support from you, the people they are making their work for.

Authors will go there to help their newest book be published, artist for their newest work, etc the list is endless and most of the work is amazing. The best part is who you support is up to you and how much you contribute is also.

I am talking about this because my father is trying to publish his newest book. Called Pump it Up.

Pump it Up by Tim Baker

As you see by donating different amounts of money you can get different things in return for helping support him. SO if you can/wish to please give something even if it is 5 bucks. From one Independent Author to you readers- it's expensive and sometimes frustrating to worry about the money when publishing. But enough of that now, next topic.

Also on facebook I have been using a facebook page for other independent businesses, they are not all "artists" of sorts, some make crafts others are photographers, etc. They are people who can use support even if it is by spreading awareness of their works.

Our Successful Generation

So yeah, with these up I can also discuss my other topic that I wanted to bring up.

I have set up the stuff for my next top 16 list that I shall be working on probably Saturday Night or Sunday. It is the 16 Underrated Games of 2002-2012.

ALSO I have asked people on facebook and you can comment on this or any entry between today and next thursday for the next list.

The options are:

TOP 16 Darkest Disney moments
16 Mental Illnesses and the myths attached to them
Top 16 Worst Movie Sequels
Top 16 Best Henchmen in Fiction
16 Youngest Serial Killers. (Famous ones)

So yeah...don't forget to follow me here and on twitter for a chance to let me know topics you wanna see me rant about. Or just suggest lists that you think should be suggested. Share the blog with your friends and get them follow too and maybe you all can find yourselves reading my stuff together and talking about it like its a big thing.

Till next time- peace.

TIME TRAVEL!!!!

Last year at some point China had been stranger then usual and in result of this strangeness- I was provoked more then ever to just be a complete douche about it.

As you probably know or not. China made a law banning the viewing of time travel on tv. (shows like dr. who, back to the future, bill and ted, etc anything with time travel.)

In a statement (available here in Chinese) dated March 31, the State Administration for Radio, Film & Television said that TV dramas that involve characters traveling back in time “lack positive thoughts and meaning.” The guidelines discouraging this type of show said that some “casually make up myths, have monstrous and weird plots, use absurd tactics, and even promote feudalism, superstition, fatalism and reincarnation.”

Now honestly I think they are being a bit obtuse and anal. BUT if there was a some strange reason behind their law...and it has something to do with a conspiracy that I could/would look into.

I'd say making a working time machine would piss them off even more and totally be worth it, you know get a time machine into their seat of government show it off as one thing and be like "oh noooooo I lied...ITS A TIME MACHINE!! SUCKA!!!"

Today's random factoid of the day-

According to suicide statistics, Monday is the favored day for self-destruction.

Ever wonder if it is because they aren't ready to hand in those papers they were supposed to do over the weekend instead of getting laid, partying or binge gaming?

Well thats it for the random entry of the day guys. Don't forget to follow me on here then jump on over to twitter and follow me there so you can shoot me ideas for new random topics, or maybe suggest top 16 list ideas I could create a poll for. And remember at the end of this week I start my "top 16 under rated video games from 2000-2010"

so look forward to that if you would...and if you can tweet me what you think should be on the list or leave it in a comment!

16 Misinterpreted Song Meanings

It's like early..but I figured I'd do it and take a break from what I was doing...meaning next week might not need a top 16 list...unless I get bored again lol....

Today guys you're in for a treat I have scavenged for the songs that people usually botch the meanings.

Now no one go and say "music is subjective!!"
It's not. Music is art and art's quality might be interpreted subjectively BUT the MESSAGE of music's lyrics are pretty damn clear in their intention/message.

From Smoke on the Water being about a club burning to the ground to Summer of 69 being about the sex position/summer of wild sex. Song lyrics are meant to be enjoyed WITH or without their meanings known by all. Some people have a blissful ignorance thinking their idea of the meaning is right and I don't wish to blow that bliss but I have 16 songs that you probably are gonna go "wait wha?" over.

Let's get this show on the road. Today JM presents to you his top 16 (not in any order today) misinterpreted song lyrics.

Number 16-
The Police- Every Breath you Take

Majority People think it is about- LOVE <3

Isn't is a bit creepy to see this up here? I mean for YEARS wedding couples would play this as their first dance. High school sweet herts would put this on their lovers mix tapes...you guys do mix tapes for your loves still right? (What's that Casey...they don't?....WHAT?!!?!? ....*vanishes for a few minutes and returns with a boombox* MAKE Mix Tapes- they show how much you love people...trust me.)

Anyway- yeah this song was a classic love song for everyone...they thought. Would you hate to know that this is actually about insecurity/possessiveness after a break up.  I mean ok- let's examine some lyrics:

every breath you take, every move you make, every bond you break, every step you take- I'll be watching you. - creepy?

Every single day And every word you say Every game you play, every night you stay
I'll be watching you- WTF?!

Oh can't you see You belong to me How my poor heart aches With every step you take- ok buddy back off...I need space...

See my point? Call it romantic in sound but in meaning the lyrics provide the theory that women DO want guys like this. They like how he is territorial, possessive, etc - HOWEVER only in theory they want it...because once it happens and he becomes that way, she freaks and realizes...SHIT this dudes a bit...well yeah...."

so a tip- don't make this your love song if you're a couple lol, it's kinda a bad omen I bet.

Number 15-
Bruce Springsteen- Born in the USA

Majority of People think this is about- PATRIOTISM!!....>.>

ok Rednecks- get pissed at me, then realize you're more of an idiot then you think. Springsteen FOOLED Regan with this one- you think it's patriot...good for you. It's not. Born in the USA is a outcry for the Vietnam war. I'll provide proof:

Got in a little hometown jam
So they put a rifle in my hand
Sent me off to a foreign land
To go and kill the yellow man

Come back home to the refinery
Hiring man said son if it was up to me
Went down to see my v.a. man
He said son, don't you understand

I had a brother at Khe Sahn
Fighting off the Viet Cong
They're still there, he's all gone

He had a woman he loved in Saigon
I got a picture of him in her arms now

Down in the shadow of the penitentiary
Out by the gas fires of the refinery
I'm ten years burning down the road
Nowhere to run aint got nowhere to go

This song had a GREAT chorus but the verses themselves were very passionate and calling out the country for sending soldiers over to Vietnam yet when they came back...well you know how we treat our V.A buddies. Springsteen probably had the idea that people had no real idea of how bad our solders had it, then to make it worse people were praising those same troops for killing one or two Viet Cong members- not realizing that it meant children, women, etc. The song is kinda a shadowdy truth that a lot of people hide from.

Number 14-
           Maroon 5- Harder to Breathe

Majority of People think this is about- making the beast of two backs with Jane

I can already hear it- "BUT JM! this is about SEXY SEX SEX!!!"
...no...no it is not.

How dare you say that my behavior is unacceptable
So condescending unnecessarily critical
I have the tendency of getting very physical
So watch your step 'cause if I do you'll need a miracle

You drain me dry and make me wonder why I'm even here
This Double Vision I was seeing is finally clear
You want to stay but you know very well I want you gone
Not fit to fuckin' [CD cover says: "funkin'"] tread the ground that I'm walking on.

What you are reading are Adam Levine's message to the Record Company that was abusing his and his bands ability to make good music, demanding song after song after song. Ruining the love of music Maroon 5 originally had before signing on- they felt this song's multiple meanings would get passed into the album, mostly because everyone will think it is about that slut Jane.

“Does it kill, Does it burn, Is it painful to learn, That it’s me that has all the control”
    - A set of lyrics that really was the slap to the face. Causing this song to be an instant hit with the fans and the record company.

Maroon 5 Faces what anyone with a company owning their talent faces- demands that are near impossible to meet. Be it record companies demanding more songs then time could allow to be made to authors being demanded to provide materials for a manuscript that you are barely able to process fast enough. Those higher ups forget- "our talent" got them to notice us. We can walk away and find other people to enjoy our talents just as much for less stress.

Remember this when you listen to music- sometimes he record companies are being pissed on by the songs you love.

Number 13-
              Eagles- Hotel California

Majority of People think this is about- Lucy-fer and that gosh darn devil moozik

Why...this song is TOO cool to be about crap like that...really it is.

ominous and abstract in nature- this song really isn't about the Devil...or California really. Mostly it is actually supposed to explain the pain/suffering of being on the road...ALL the time.

On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair
Warm smell of colitas, rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light
My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim
I had to stop for the night
There she stood in the doorway;
I heard the mission bell
And I was thinking to myself,
"This could be Heaven or this could be Hell"
Then she lit up a candle and she showed me the way
There were voices down the corridor,
I thought I heard them say...

Welcome to the Hotel California
Such a lovely place (Such a lovely place)
Such a lovely face
Plenty of room at the Hotel California
Any time of year (Any time of year)
You can find it here

The first verse sums it up- being on the highway is great- the freedom and such but when they need to crash and actually REST...the hotels become home. The people in those hotels new friends or family. Maybe Lovers. A lot of hotels can be the greatest you'll stay in...others just flat out suck. They are in all types of neighborhoods, from ghettos to beautiful scenery all around.

There really isn't much to defend anymore...I mean once you get passed the b.s about the church of satan guy that everyone thinks that is about. You can see the harmless message that sometimes hotels are a man/band's best friend.

Number 12-
            Queen- Bohemian Rhapsody

Majority of people think this is about- Mercury's struggle with AIDS

hmmm pfftt where to start..

well it hasn't less to do with aids then an abortion clinic if that helps. Seeing as the "AIDS Epidemic" of the 80s...was after this song was finished....but yeah this song actually has NO meaning...it is actually one of those songs where the music was made first and then lyrics were added to string together with the melody.

I mean from verse to verse NOTHING flows together in the sense of an overall "Message" maybe fans have associated a meaning of "Struggles of Life and acceptance of death" later as it became a bigger and bigger hit (probably still one of the ONLY songs world wide that everyone seems to know, stop what they are doing and join in for, without fail.)

I guess you could say though, MAYBE- BIG MAYBE here...Mercury intended THAT...to leave an ambiguous and wide open range of meanings to grant every listener their own perspective to it. I doubt he could have GUESSED how big the song would get but he did know when it was done- it was a hit. It was one of their crowning achievements to musical history (intended that way or not)

We'll never really know what Freddie had in mind for this song...but we do know that now that it is...whatever it is...I doubt he'd say anyone is wrong for their interpretations...because they probably are amazing and well thought out..aside from the the whole AIDS one...that was just foolish. (I think anyway)

Number 11-
               Guns and Roses- November Rain

People Have Thought this Meant- 'Slash and Axl Breaking up'
 'Axl's Dream song'
Meaningless- just a long song.

Actual Meaning-
not wanting to deal with love that isn't mutual or reciprocated.

This is one of Guns and Roses- GREATEST songs. Originally being 25 minutes long with TWO solos by Slash, and being cut to 8-9 minutes in the end. This song was probably the most beautiful for imagery (the music video) and some how most heart felt in their discography. According to one of Axl's former band mates (Tracii Guns) he was working on this all the way back in 1983. It was the first/only thing he originally could play on Piano. Yet he had no real idea what to do with it, he just knew it'd be a great song...if he could finish it.

Personally I am not sure really if the meanings I've found are really it. I mean listening to it as much as I have I really would like to ask the band back then what it meant. Not what it means now. Personally I think it does have something to do with Axl and Slash 'ending' (tying into the not wanting to deal with love that isn't mutual) and the BASE of it is 'Axl's Song' The piano being him and everything else being "the world around him" persay. Almost getting into the idea- why did it go from 25 minutes down to 9?

**If this meaning is wrong I'll be sure to rectify it. Searching for an ACTUAL concrete meaning wasn't easy so I went with one I saw most often and would be fine admitting if it is wrong provided someone presents that evidence.

Number 10-
            Eurythmics- Sweet Dreams
                           (Video is Marilyn Manson's Version)

Majority of people Feel this means- Rape/Bad Relationships/Abuse

Reality- this meaning was a bit more...well less negative I guess...

The information booklet in Eurythmics' 1983 album Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This) says that the song is about life as it is, saying that here we are in our existence, trying to make sense of our lives and to survive (Sweet dreams are made of this/Who am I to disagree/I travel the world an the seven seas/Everybody's looking for something).

Then (Some of them want to use you/Some of them want to get used by you/Some of them want to abuse you/Some of them want to be abused) is indicative of the types of people you run into in daily life.

Finally, (Hold your head up/Keep your head up/Movin' on) means that you must move on despite these obstacles.

Or, the song can be applied to a lot of different conflicts (or blissful breakthroughs), which would make the song rather versatile in movies involving predicaments in the beginning which are solved in the end.

This all being said- technically...it means whatever the listener wishes it to mean (within logical evidence provided reason of course) But the intended meaning is life itself. (I love how creepy manson made it though >.> gave it a WHOLE new feel)

Number 9-
Phil Collins- In the Air Tonight

What people thought- too many rumors you've probably heard a few of them

What it actually means- HAHA Phil Collins says "“This is one song out of all the songs that I’ve ever written… that I really don’t know what it’s about”

I've heard soo many people saying what they think it means. From "its about love in the air, and people falling in love all the time." to "Phil witnessed an onlooker who could have saved someone from drowning, but didn’t." But holy shit what do I think about it meaning NOTHING...I kinda laugh...it's like Bohemian Rhapsody all over again..just with a better drum solo.

I kinda wanna know what YOU guys think for this song- comment below with what you've thought of this song before reading this for a meaning.

Number 8-
              R.E.M- Losing My Religion

People think- Losing Faith in God

Reality- (southerns should know this) - being frustrated with a situation or a person.

The Phrase “lose one’s religion” is actually a Southern phrase that means to run out of patience or to be very frustrated by a person or situation. This song is actually about having a crush on somebody and constantly looking for assurances that the love is not unrequited.

Which honestly makes sense. Mostly in the lyrics -
That's me in the corner, thats me in the spot light losing my religion.

obviously everyone knows that feeling, you love someone EVERYONE knows but it doesn't matter and your "faith" is being broken or shattered by the pain/frustration of the unanswered feelings.

Number 7-
Dave Mathew's Band- Crash into Me

People think- love song
Reality- PEEPING TOM....(why do so many musicians do this? o.O)

I’m pretty sure I put this song on a mix CD I made once or twice my sophomore year of high school. At the time, I thought it was a beautiful love song about longing for someone else. Well, it is, sorta...kinda… but the person singing is actually a perv!

Some lines should give him away: “Oh I watch you there through the window and I stare at you. You wear nothing but you wear it so well.”

honestly girls- if a guy gives you this song. ask what he thinks of you naked, see how he responds before dating him. He might have already seen it...once or twice ya know.

Number 6
The Beatles- Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds

People think- LSD
Reality- John's son drew a picture for his friend Lucy

John Lennon stated that the origins of the title come from a drawing that his son did of his friend, Lucy. The title of the picture was “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds,” so John used that for his song.

You can't imagine how many people I hear that actually get PISSED when I say "It has NOTHING to do with DRUGS!"
Even if it did LATER ....Lennon said the title was taken form the  picture his son drew. The video might have been about a trip...That I won't fight at ALL...but the song itself...no, no drugs.

Number 5-
Depeche Mode- Personal Jesus (Multiple Artists covered it)
(Johnny Cash version video - my personal favorite)

 People think- Heroin/religion/etc

Reality- inspired by the book "Elvis and Me" by Pricilla Presley. According to the songwriter, Martin Gore, "It's a song about being a Jesus for someone else, someone to give you hope and care. It's about how Elvis was her man and her mentor and how often that happens in love relationships; how everybody's heart is like a god in some way, and that's not a very balanced view of someone, is it"

I get that everyone tweeks that it's a blasphemous song. But honestly- I actually find that it's REALLY inspirational. Reach out- touch faith. Feeling unknown and all alone...

the song deals with the fact EVERYONE needs a personal savior. Divine or not...someone who will forgive you for anything, help you when you need it and help you find out who you really are.

Number 4-
Black Sabbath- Iron Man (Originally Iron Bloke)

What it isn't- Tony Stark's Them song

Reality- Be prepared to face palm with a chair... Many fans of the Marvel franchise comic book character, most of whom joined the fan base after the 2008 film, seem to have it in their heads that the Black Sabbath song is about the comic book character.

Black Sabbath bassist and lyricist Geezer Butler wrote the song as a kind of science fiction ballad about someone who travels in time and tries to warn the present about some kind of  future apocalypse, but some how winds  up causing it instead. It has no connection to the comic book character and in fact was originally called "Iron Bloke".
So yeah....I kinda wanna smack people for hearing them say "JM you LOVE IRON MAN...isn't that your favorite song?!"...
-.-* you shouldn't breed for that thought dimwit.

Number 3 -
             Bryan Adams- Summer of '69

What it isn't- Nostalgic Memory of a band

Reality- In the Summer of '69, Bryan was 9 years old. Soooo yeah no.

Reality Bryan Adams admits it: "It's a very simple song about looking back on the summertime and making love. For me, the '69 was a metaphor for making love not about the year." <- Bryan Adams in an interview.

The video is amazing and gives the feel of a "look back on how his band was formed" or something to like. But in reality it is about sex during the summer...and maybe a few 69s in between.

Number 2-
U2- Pride in the Name of Love

What it is not- Jesus or One night stands

What is it really then?

Bono was speaking about those throughout history who have died because they preached of the equality of all men and practiced non-violence as the only way to achieve their goal of having this equality universally recognized.

Dr. King, the primary example of non-violent resistance as the only way to bring about changes in civil rights. But there are allusions to others; Christ for example.

The song is about singular "people" (including Christ as man) that lived their life with pride. Not in a boastful way, but with the pride a person has when their thoughts and actions are motivated by their understanding and full awareness of the dignity and sanctity of ALL human life.

It is a tribute or illustration or reminder to us, of martyrs to this ideal. It speaks to how they lived their life with an inner Pride in all of humanity and that this Pride is really an expression of God's love for all of humanity. These people did what they did because they were trying to spread this message of God's love for all of mankind.

Long story short- no divinity/no faith- just love and a kind heart from a man who the world listened to and still does with anticipation.

finally though

Number 1-
Eve 6- Here's to the Nights

What it is not- Nostalgia for times long past

What it is- My graduating class song (HA had to do it) and a one night stand...yeah...seriously.

A LOT of people use this song as a graduation tune and it has the words that describe what graduating kids would want to hear...sort of. If they are into one night stands and sleeping around I guess?

I love the song. I had much feeling put into listening to it all through out high school and I still do get a bit weird hearing it. But that is because of the memories attached- not the lyrics. These lyrics are in a way the singers admitting of his guilt. He lied to the girl(s) and had sex and then moved on. Obviously looking back he either regretted it for personal reasons or got caught up with by the offended party.

I guess the best thing to say about this song- It's great and all but the multiple meanings allows it to be greater.

That's it- my top 16 list.. I have to say a LOT of songs have many meanings. Our own...then the intended meanings. I am not saying your meaning is WRONG because Music does one thing- it is supposed to connect us together by enjoying it. Not fighting over the meanings. That is how music is art. Granted the writers are truly the ones who decide what it meant. Not us, we only interpret it. So please remember that when talking with friends over music.

Alrighty as always- follow me here and on twitter to send suggestions for more top lists or other rants. leave comments below and I'll be sure to answer them at the end of each month and don't forget- happy zombie jesus day this weekend. ta ta folks :P
